About Add Page Numbers
Page numbers turn a document from something you scroll through into something you can navigate, cite, and discuss. 'See page 22' is useful. 'The liability clause somewhere in the middle' is not. For contracts, reports, manuals, and academic papers, numbered pages are essential.
Add numbers after the document structure is final. If you number first and then merge in additional pages, remove pages, or reorganize, the sequence becomes wrong. Numbering is always the last editing step before sharing.
Position, size, and starting number are all configurable. Bottom center and bottom right are standard for most business and legal documents. Keep the font size readable but unobtrusive — large enough to see clearly on a printout, small enough not to distract from content.
